YAK (Young Adult Catholics of St. John Bosco)
Vision:
Our vision is to create a kinship of apostles of young adult Catholics.
- We are faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church as expressed in Sacred Scripture and Catholic Tradition.
- We treat our members as unique individuals and with respect.
- We work to assist our members in developing and strengthening their God-given talents and abilities.
- We encourage creative thinking and new ideas within the core values of the Catholic Church.
- We believe in individuality, appropriate freedom of expression and the conscious acceptance of responsibility that follows it.
- We value listening to understand and not judge and speaking to enlighten and not offend.
Mission:
We affirm our mission through the promotion of Catholism teachings to young adults.
- By inviting disappointed, runaway Catholics back to the Church;
- By supporting and encouraging individual conciousness; and
- By providing spiritual fulfilment.
- Many young adults wander away from the church, not by deliberate or wilful badness. Some have lost interest in Catholism or were not convinced of Catholic values in our highly demanding modern times. Others have done some bad things and feel hypocritical going to Mass. We make it easy for them to return to God by offering a warm welcome into the love of Salesians, a listening ear and an honest tongue. We want to ignite Pope Francis’ dream of having a Catholic Church with a modern spirit. We were created as unique individuals and so we come to find God in our own unique way. At YAK we uphold this individuality by encouraging the disappointed or disatisfied to speak their mind and truly express themselves freely. By taking a grasp of the guiding hand that YAK perpetually extends to our lost Catholics, they might find peace with God and within themselves.
